  • A1 nyt syndicated article on Wen Jiabao, prime minister of china, saying he’s concerned about the $1t invested in US debt. the article goes in a few directions such as china’s declining trade surplus and risk of missing bao ba (“protect the 8” or guaranteed 8% gdp growth).  it never addresses the significance of Wen speaking out about concerns over the US as a safe haven. this is a big signal. (me personally i like it and feel it’s justified, especially with the protectionist rhetoric of the Obama regime.)
  • A2 has an AP syndicated article on SC gov Mark Sanford saying he’ll turn down obama stimulus money unless he can use a chunck of it to pay down debt. Lots of political attacks on the idea (deprive the people of the state; his motivation is personal not the welfare of the people). personally i like it and am disappointed he’s not willing to reject more. i’d like it if Sanford or someone would consider the long term economic benefits of rejecting the cash or only using it to reduce liability.
  • B1 interesting that the red-light cameras at major intersections have worked well: accidents and injuries are down, but so are citations. So now several gwinnett county cities are saying they’re too expensive to operate. i wonder if anyone modeled out a success scenario with the systems, if not, then what was the point?
